Our Accompanists

Helen Crayford

After taking a degree at Cambridge, Helen gained a post- graduate diploma from the Royal College of Music, followed by a year’s private study with Nadia Boulanger in Paris.  A wide-ranging freelance career ensued, ranging from work as keyboard player with most major British orchestras through to worldwide performances of her solo show ‘Rags to Riches’.

More recently she has been busy with Kent-based ensembles such as Kentish Piano Trio, the Ringlemere Ensemble and Quartet Orsay.

Tony Halstead

Although known formerly as a horn player, Tony has been a busy keyboard player, teacher and conductor for nearly sixty years.  He studied with the legendary harpsichordist, George Malcolm, before recording J.S.Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos and all twenty-seven of Johann Christian Bach's piano concertos with the Hanover Band for the German record company ‘cpo’.

Tony has played harpsichord continuo for Rostropovich, Zukerman, Gidon Kremer, Christopher Hogwood, Benedict Preece and many soloists/conductors.  As a pianist he has partnered several Kent-based musicians, who include horn player Stephen Stirling, cellist Rosie Banks-Francis, violinist Stelios Chatziiosifidis, trumpeter Paul Beniston and sopranos Tamar Simone File and Sarah Ai Hale.
